School Agers

Tuition for 2011-2012 Listed Below

School AgersThe school age unit serves children who have completed kindergarten to the age of 12. Adult to child ratio is 1 adult to 21 children. However, we always have at least 3 adults going on field trips. When the children are in the building we can limit adult supervision to 1 adult but typically have 2 teachers in the classroom for the major portion of the day due to the big age difference in the children. The school age program differs from the other age groups as it is not a year round program but only offered on winter, spring and summer breaks.

In the School Age Program we try to give the children a genuine break from school. Even though they are still in a classroom setting they are free to play in areas that include Legos, computer games, Nintendo, art and crafts. Curing the summer the one academic area that we like to maintain is reading. Children are encouraged to read for a period of time every day. They may check out books at the weekly trips to the library if they have a library care or select a book from our well stock library.

The field trips the children take are always well supervised and planned out. Permission slips are signed by parents. Transportation to the field trips is in staff vehicles that must have full insurance coverage and must have maintenance check done by a mechanic. Emergency forms and first aid kits accompany the children on every trip.

The children go on weekly trips to the pool, movies, library, and park. Sprinkled throughout the summer are bigger trips to the KC Royal, Swope Park Zoo, Theater for Young America as well as roller skating, bowling and mini golf.

Your School Age child will be kept busy throughout the summer. The children usually participate in an outreach program that in the past has raised money for Crosslines and Fun Kits for Soldiers. The children have a bake sale and a car wash to raise funds for the outreach they have chosen.

  • Activity Fees are a separate charge averaging around $130.00 to $150.00 per summer break. (Less if your family has an Overland Park Pool Pass)
  • Activity fees for winter and spring break can average $10.00 to $25.00.
  • Field trips range from trips to the library, swimming, and bowling to trips to the Zoo, Wonderscope or Union Station.
