Knox Child Development Center located in Overland Park, KS first opened in August of 1993 under the name of Knox Day Care. Through the years the daycare has evolved into the Child Development Center that it is today. We serve infants 6 weeks old up to children 12 years old. Children 6 weeks old to pre-kindergarten are cared for 52 weeks of the year. We provide care over winter, spring and summer break for school age children who have completed kindergarten through the age of 12. We're licensed through the State of Kansas with a capacity for 131 children.

     Our staff guides your infant to meet developmentally appropriate milestones. Infants and toddlers learn through visual and imitation stimulation. Infants learn using objects, colors, shapes, textures, sounds, and cause and effect activities.

      The Toddler Unit is a bright and happy room.. The Toddler unit cares for children 12 months and walking through 2 ½ years of age. We are licensed for 10 children with a ratio of 1 adult to 5 children. The big thing in the Toddler Unit is mobility especially since walking is in its early stages.
      In the Toddler Room the teachers plan activities that are hands on and involve the senses in some way. Toddler’s attention spans are very short so their activities such as art or music are planned in short increments of time.(continues...)

      The 2 year old room is a big room full of sunshine. The 2 year old unit cares for children from 2 years of age to the age of 3. We are licensed for 14 children with a ratio of 1 adult to 7 children. The 2 year old room is the room known for potty training.
      In the 2 year old room the teachers plan activities that include an opportunity to explore their environment with their senses. Teachers provide activities that feature the monthly theme as well as emphasizing colors and shapes. (continues...)

      The 3 year old room is a large and airy room. The 3 year old unit cares for children from 2 ½ years to 4 years of age. We are licensed for 20 children with a ratio of 1 adult to 10 children

      The 4 year old room is a room with more distinct learning centers. The 4 year old unit cares for children from 3 ½ years to young 5 year olds. We are licensed for 15 children with a ratio of 1 adult to 12 children.
      In the 4 year old room we have children who are just turning 4 years to children who will turn 5 in late spring and summer. Some of the children in the 4 year old room will begin kindergarten at the end of the summer.       The 5 year old room is the last room children can attend year round. All the children in this classroom will be attending kindergarten at the end of the summer. The 5 year old room cares for children that will turn 5 by around January 1^st.. We are licensed for 11 children with a ratio of 1 adult to 11 children.
      In the 5 year old room, much like the 4 year old room, teachers provide activities that are developmentally appropriate for a 5 year old; providing kindergarten readiness skills for children preparing to enter kindergarten. (continues...)

      The school age unit serves children who have completed kindergarten to the age of 12. Adult to child ratio is 1 adult to 21 children. However, we always have at least 3 adults going on field trips. When the children are in the building we can limit adult supervision to 1 adult but typically have 2 teachers in the classroom for the major portion of the day due to the big age difference in the children. The school age program differs from the other age groups as it is not a year round program but only offered on winter, spring and summer breaks.(continues...)
